"The powerful thrust of Smell The Popcorn will launch you on a practical passage into how to get the best out of your personal and professional life. The book challenges you to become what you are meant to be."
- Steve Gilliland
Over the previous three decades, I have read over 1,000 books, with the majority of them being faith based or self-help. I am a carnivore for insight and wisdom. As an avid reader, I am often asked about my favorite authors and what books I recommend. As a result of being asked so many times, I have created my all-time top 20 list, which occasionally changes depending on what I complete reading in a given year.
Additionally, as an author and member of the Speaker Hall of Fame, I feel honored to be asked by several authors to write the foreword to their book. My response is always the same. I am more than happy to read their manuscript, however, writing the foreword is dependent on several factors.
First and foremost, I want to know the author has written the book himself. There are far too many ghost writers who, while they are exceptionally skilled at writing, do not represent the heart and soul of the author. I want to know the author is genuine, and most importantly, they are faith based. Whereas the content of the book is essential, content of the person is more important.
The book needs to take me to intellectual places I have never been, or if I have been, remind me of how and why I got there. It needs to present something obvious, in a completely non-obvious way. The author needs to take a subject and make it more understandable and make me have a moment where I say, "Wow, I never thought of it that way." A book needs to confirm my beliefs, resurrect the key things I have forgotten, and challenge me to think differently.
Smell The Popcorn is that book! Jerry LePre takes you on a journey of self-discovery that inspires you to change, grow, and learn. He brilliantly crafts a message that is straight-forward and challenging. Most cleverly, he takes the kernel of corn, that when faced with tremendous heat changes into popcorn, and metaphorically creates a wondrous entanglement of learning. The book challenges you to become what you are meant to be.
The powerful thrust of Smell The Popcorn will launch you on a practical passage into how to get the best out of your personal and professional life. In this fast-paced culture with so many people driven by the lure of material success, Jerry LePre reminds us of what truly matters in life. His life is a testimony to the fact if you ‘do your best and let God do the rest,’ not only will you grow, but you will be an encouragement and inspiration to others. As you read this book, it will become evident how crucial it is to integrate your faith into every aspect of your life so that you can be victorious in spite of the challenges and obstacles that life brings your way.
Jerry’s life-changing secrets to empower success come out of the mind and heart of a truly remarkable individual and addresses an enormous need in our society. According to Jerry LePre, the Popcorn Mentality is not just about motivation, it is about transformation. It is a conversion involving vision, attitude, love, understanding, and energy. I believe it is accurate to say that the most successful people have defined these five principles. While vision defines your purpose, without a positive attitude it is ineffective. Whereas love should be at the heart of everything we value, without understanding, we can never reach our potential. At the same time, you need the passion and energy to light a fire inside of you, which like a kernel of corn, makes you grow.
I have been fortunate enough to have been around some great mentors all my life. From an early age, I was challenged to read, learn, and expand my thinking. This book is a continuation of my mentoring process and provides practical advice from a person who draws from his fundamental experiences and shows that we must all be learning, living, and looking to the future with hope and optimism.
This book is for anyone in pursuit of excellence with integrity. It is time to change, grow, and learn and Smell The Popcorn!
